... was inaugurated in 1965 by the Briar Pipe Trade Association (as Pipeman of the Year). The first recipient was the actor Rupert Davies. The award was discontinued in 2003, as the organisers feared that it might fall foul of laws banning the advertising and promotion of tobacco.
The last recipient (in 2003) was Stephen Fry - apart from a special award that was made in 2014 to the outgoing President of the UK Federation of Pipe Clubs.
